This book made me laugh a little then cry a lot, and then left me very happy. I love it when a book can do that – keep me up reading until 2:00 in the morning, yet feel like it was totally worth it! I really enjoyed seeing characters from past books, and how they’re doing now, as well as watch the personal growth within the characters, be they the main or secondary, etc characters. The characters I’ve met so far in this series have been very realistic and believable, even though it is a time travel series. I will definitely be reading this entire series!
2. Book 2: With the Magic: 5 stars
I received a free copy of the clean time travel romance novel With the Magic: Twickenham Time Travel Romance Book 2 by Donna K. Weaver and this review was given freely.
A nice blend of modern and historical day to day life mixed with highlights of modern London tourist destinations and defining world military events. This novel ends happily while hinting at a sequel. Picking up where Against the Magic ends with Gareth entering just prior to the ‘JUMP’, Aunt Nellie brings life and love into the lives of Gareth and American transplant Doctor Catherine when Gareth travels into future London to satisfy his curiosity concerning the modern wonders of the word and the fate of his 2nd love Clarisse. Both Gareth and the widowed Catherine have to decide if potential loss of their life work, the promise of love and, staying in the time period they were born to are worth the risk of a new relationship.
I liked this time travel romance because Gareth travels into the future, meets Dr. Catherine, halls in love, faces many revelations about the future & has many decisions to make. Catherine is faced with similar decisions that she finds almost impossible to make. A well-written time travel story.
With the Magic: Twickenham Time Travel Romance, Book 7, my third read from author Donna K. Weaver and my second in the highly enjoyable Twickenham Full-Moon Ball Romances, was a highly enjoyable romance, as good as the first book was. Cameos from main characters in the first book was an excellent touch! I wish I could get more read & review books in this series. I was given an Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. I’ll be reading more from her as I already own 11 more of her books. A well-written story from a very good author. No spoilers from me. You need to buy and read the book then leave a review. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Gareth had his heart torn to shreds when his wife and son died soon after a premature birth. Feeling that he is incapable of love, he goes in search of shallow pleasures with the hope of dulling the pain.
After Reese shows him the error of his ways, he realizes that she has traveled from a time in the future. He wants to travel to that future to learn how he might more meaningfully help the people in his own time. That is when the magic and Aunt Nellie bring him to modern time to meet a doctor named Catherine.
Can a modern woman and a man with bygone chivalry teach each other about life and love, or is a nearly two centuries too big of a bridge to gap?
You don’t want to miss this edge of your seat romantic fantasy!
If you love time travel romance, try time travel times three. In “With the Magic” we travel to the future, to the past and back again. The main characters were endearing and perfect for each other from the very beginning.
Gareth Hildebrand, eighth Earl of Kellworth has figured out the secret of Twickenham Manor. He is curious to see what he believes will be a Utopian future, but how will a man from 1850 handle a trip to our time?
Dr. Catherine Ryan fills her time with work. She finds being an emergency doctor fulfilling, but could there be more? She is asked to escort Gareth around London, thinking he has a brain injury that has confused his memory.
It doesn’t take long before they find themselves attracted to each other. As the chemistry between them grows, his time to leave draws near. He finds himself reluctant to go, and Catherine begins to figure out the sad truth that he may be from another time.
A terrorist attack forces her to accompany him back in time. But how can a female doctor who spent a third of her life training give it up and live the constricting life of the oppressed women of 1850 England?
I found myself rooting for this romance to bloom in full. I wanted to shake some sense into both protagonists as they almost let stubbornness and a martyr complex keep them apart. But of course, the HEA is just around the corner.
Loved it.
I enjoyed this magical story. Twickenham Manor is a time travel portal. When an English earl decides to go to the future and meets a lovely doctor it seems he has found someone to love again. When she goes back in time with him she will struggle with staying or going. Being a modern, stubborn doctor, some friends, magic and the earl need to convince her that thebpaatbis her future. I received a complimentary audio and this review is voluntary.
With the Magic reminds me of the movie Kate and Leopold, which is one of my favorite Meg Ryan movies, so as you might imagine I did enjoy the book. If you’ve read Weaver’s first book, Against the Magic, you’ll be familiar with many of the characters already and with the conclusion of that book we were left wondering what would happen to Gareth Hildebrand. With the Magic answers that question. Weaver does a great job with character development. In short, With the Magic is about finding out what is the most important thing in life. If you haven’t read the first book, you won’t be completely lost because Weaver offers enough back story to alleviate confusion.
I’ll be honest, fantasy and time travel are not genres I usually read. Because of this, I was a little overwhelmed at the beginning, but eventually found myself sucked into the story and had a hard time putting it down. Gareth and Catherine are so sweet together. I love their give and take with one another. They complement each other so nicely.
This is the first book I’ve read in this series and obviously I enjoyed it, but I wish I had either started at the very beginning of the series or at the least with Against the Magic. I felt lost in the beginning and wishing I had more back story. As I got further into the book there was enough information and I didn’t feel lost anymore, but there were some spoilers regarding Against the Magic specifically and possibly another book. For that reason, I plan on reading the rest of the series in order.
This was so exciting and lovely how it all came together. I could see just how it all played out in my mind as I read. Excitement and danger was there, love and denial also. Two hearts brought together through time only for one to think they would bring the other down. Great ending and am looking forward to the next in the series.

A Sweet & Clean Magical Love Story
Would you cross through time to spend your life with the one you love? That is ultimately the question before Catherine and Gareth. Fae magic can open the portal, but they must decide their own future.
With the Magic is an entertaining romance with very likable characters. I easily connected with Gareth and Catherine. They both had faced extreme sorrow, and they both had given up on love. Neither expected their chemistry to developed steadily, nor did they expect to face a climatic decision.
Donna K. Weaver seamlessly threads through two time periods while adeptly moving this well written story forward with each scene. This sweet tale is both character and story driven with a smile-worthy happy ending.
This enjoyable book is easy to recommend to readers of all ages.
This is an enjoyable story that easily draws you in and keeps you entertained with romance, time travel, humor and fae magic. Gareth and Catherine complement each other perfectly and I loved the humor the author infused in the story, especially when Gareth, who travels to London from 1850, first encountered jeans and zippers. Torn between responsivity and love, Lord Gareth and Dr. Catherine, have to decide if the potential for love is worth making sacrifices for. The author did an excellent job of creating both the past and the present, giving us characters that appeal and a sweet, entertaining storyline. The narrator’s pace in the audiobook was just right and she gave the characters individual voices and really made the reader feel the differences between the 1800’s and modern times. This is an easy listening, enjoyable story of two people who find love even though they are born hundreds of years apart.
This was a great story. I loved seeing how Catherine had a passion for history and went to the dances put on at the Twikenham manor. I enjoyed her medical mind as well. Gareth had found out about the possibility of time travel and wanted to go to the future. Once he got there, he met Catherine. The chemistry between the two was pretty strong throughout the book. Seeing how the couple interacted and the situations that they came across added to the story. Catherine and Gareth had decisions to make as their attraction grew. Overall, this was a great story that I would recommend to those that love romance, the medical field, and time travel.
I received a copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Can time keep them apart?
When Gareth is given the opportunity to visit the future, he has so many preconceived ideas about how ideal it will be. The author did a great job in showing his surprise at so many “modern” things. I loved the way he tried to pretend he wasn’t completely lost in our society.
I liked Catherine as well. She was passionate about helping her patients. She was also practical and fun. The way she figured out Gareth’s secret showed her intelligence.
Kate and Leopold is one of my favorite movies – in it, the hero travels to the present day from the past, though one a little closer to our time. Somehow, despite the fact that Leopold is extremely clever, it always seemed like he adapted a bit too quickly and too well.
The things Gareth marveled at made sense and his confusion at things Catherine said were sometimes humorous. I mean, how do you explain plastic surgery to someone from the 19th century? And the author took advantage of that conversation to share a Victorian beauty treatment that shocked our modern doctor (and me)!
If you enjoy time-travel stories, this one is well-done and could be a nice addition to your library. Though some of the characters (including Gareth) are from the first book in this series by this author, Against the Magic, the fact that it has been a while since I read it did not leave me at a loss for reading this one.
Between Stairs and Stardust is currently part of the Finding Ever After compilation, in which the stories are linked together through the fairy-tale book Stella illustrated. This collection spans one hundred years or so through the four stories. Keep an eye out for Between Stairs and Stardust’s release as a stand-alone paperback and an e-book. I will review the other stories in the collection in a separate post as well.
May you read happily ever after!
While I have heard it said that the fact we like to create is because we were made in the image of our creator, God, the ways in which this was expressed here was . . . well, magical! Anyone who has thought or heard that fiction is a waste of time or that it sets us longing for what we can’t have should read this book and hear the eloquent way in which the author expresses her thoughts regarding imagination aiding our faith.
Stella’s non-traditional manner of telling young Alice the story of Cinderella was delightful! Alice had never heard a fairy-tale before and her reaction and the ensuing discussion was such fun. The layering of the story within the story and how well they blended together was enchanting.

This story has lots of surprises which makes it a fun story to read.
This time travel story will intrigue you and have you guessing until the end whether Gareth and Catherine can accept the difficulties in living in different times or if they will ever give into their feelings for each other.
