The headline could write itself:Matthew Hawkins, star defensive end, comes out of retirement to play for the Washington Wolves. Which is perfectly fine by Ava Baker—it makes her job as publicist for the team easier. There’s only two problems. This particular football player was her first crush. The bigger problem: Matthew Hawkins was once engaged to her older sister. It’s been ten years since Ava … sister.
It’s been ten years since Ava has seen Matthew. He’s bigger, better looking, and best of all—completely single. Despite his history with her sister, the attraction between Ava and Matthew isn’t so one-sided anymore.
It’s hot enough to burn down the entire city of Seattle.
But this headline is far more complicated to write. And not just for the press or what it means for her family— because once her heart is involved, there’s no predicting the ending.

I literally cannot say in words just how amazing this book is!
Matthew and Ava, they are my new book couple crush!
Matthew has come out of retirement, started with a new team, and moved to a new city. He has also just been told that his new PR rep is his x- fiance’s little sister, and she has definitely grown up!
Ava is a total badass. She is not one that is easily flustered, she is always on top of her game! That is, until Matthew walks in. Then it’s like she’s the 18 year old little sister all over again, in Matthew has grown up in all the right ways!
The chemistry is immediate the attraction is instantaneous! These two are hot, hot, hot!!
Enter Ava’s family. There has always been a feeling of not fitting in, not being good enough, and her family never fails to remind her of that.
This book will have you belly laughing, crying, and yelling all in the same chapter!
I can NOT wait to read their story again! Once just wasn’t enough!
The Ex Effect is a great romance story! Karla Sorensen gives readers all the feels in this book!
Ava is a strong independent woman doing what she loves working for the Washinton Wolves. Matthew is a pro football player who comes out of retirement to play for the Wolves.
As soon as Matthew and Ava reconnect- their chemistry is amazing. Their history is deep since he was one engaged to her sister, but their connection is undeniable. I love the story line that Sorensen takes the readers on- I love how she shows us the sides of Matthew. There are struggles with them building a relationship related to the history that I felt for both of them.
The book has great supporting characters, angst, real issues and when Ava and Matthew are able to put everything aside and just be honest with each other and to themselves- its amazing. The details and strength shown for these 2 characters in the final chapters kept me wanting more of them. Loved it so much!
5 DELICIOUS STARS!! I devoured this book!! You know when you are eating dessert and the taste is perfection, you eat it slow to make it last…..well that is this book. Ava and Matthew are perfect….they have complications to overcome, so much chemistry and fun to see their story play out. Karla Sorensen is phenomenal and always a 1-Click for me. I highly recommend this book.
An AMAZING book, if you love rom com you NEED to read this book!
We meet Ava who is one of the PR for the Wolves team who will start working with the new member of the team, and guess what… she had met him before, when she was a teenager and she was in love with him! 😉 then we meet Matthew a guy who only knows to love football or that what he thinks until he see Ava again and he notices she is all woman! 😉
This HEA is not an easy one because we find that AVA has some family issues with her mom that not accept what she decide to do with her life and that situation will make her doubt if it is worth to try to have something with Matthew, but let me tell you Matthew will do anything he can to get to know more about this gorgeous Ava and convince her to take an opportunity with him no matter what.
If you want to know what happen, because let me tell you A LOT of thing happen so they can finally have their HEA read the book ASAP!!!! once you start reading it you wont stop, YES!! that good it is!!!
Oh my. This book was EVERYTHING. I loved Ava and Matthew was one swoon worthy hero. It was light and fun and serious when it needed to be. I absolutely loved this second installment of the Washington Wolves series.
Five Angsty Stars!
Gahhhhhh……this book! Y’all!! You are going to go crazy trying to read this amazing story. Karla has a way of taking your heart and squeezing the ever loving stuffing out of it and then mending it up into a soft ball of emotions. This book gave me ALL THE FEELS.
The Ex Effect by Karla Sorensen is a must read book! You will get every single emotion you love in a sports romance. These two characters will have you laughing, fanning yourself, and freaking swooning all through the entire book. At one point you will feel like you can’t breathe and are steadily screaming for things to go a different way.
Ava and Matthew have a past. One that isn’t as pleasant as you would think. But the two have always had a bond of sorts and once they are reunited, feelings resurface and feelings grow. These two are the perfect match for one another but walls after to be let down for anything to happen. Matthew does a great job of chipping away at Ava’s walls but her head doesn’t allow the final chunks to fall. But in the end LOVE WINS!
There was a point in this story that I could of thrown my kindle across the room and stomped my foot. But I knew that in the end everything would fall into place. And Karla doesn’t disappoint.
I would highly recommend this to any romance reader.
*I was given a a copy of this book by the author in advanced for my honest review.*
Coming out of retirement brings Matthew to a new football team and a to a new town, but what he was not expecting was to be working with Ava, the sister of high college love and fiance. The same sister of the one woman who cheated on him and walked away. Ava has tried to separate herself from her family, the same ones who have criticized the choices she has made and always treated her like a life form lower than her sister. When Ava reunites with Matthew and sparks instantly fly can the two really have a relationship with all of the baggage they both have in their past? Or will her family dynamics be the one thing they both cannot overcome? With lovable characters and a storyline that had me hooked from the opening pages this was a wonderful read that I highly recommend.
