Liza Moultrie has been on the run from her past for over a year, trying to make sense of the events surrounding the attack that brought her life to a screeching hault. Life in Helen, Georgia has been kind to her and the friendships she found there have made the healing process a little easier, if painstakingly slow. Unable to distinguish nightmares from memories, she turns to the two guys who … stomped into her life with without warning.
Parker and Kade James have secrets of their own, and apparently they’re bad at keeping them. Helen was supposed to be one more stop on the road, one more paycheck. That was until they met their mate. Their mate. Two brothers, one seemingly human girl, and they’re both drawn to her. When Liza’s past catches up to her, can the brothers keep her safe? Can she let them in and accept her place as their mate?
With danger stalking her, literally, throughout the town she has come to think of as her refuge, Liza has only one choice: Trust them.
A Call To Pride is a paranormal menage romance. Steamy shifters make this story unacceptable for anyone under the age of eighteen. Because the characters in this universe have a story to tell, and the author has little control over that, some uncomfortable topics may be touched on such as sexual assault, abuse, and death.

I picked up this book as a recommendation from one of my favourite authors, and I enjoyed it just as promised. I devoured it in few hours, in one go. This debut author did a great job weaving her story of supernatural creatures, with a fresh approach, great plot, and lovable characters.
Liza is running and hiding from the traumatic events from her past, as she finally settles in a charming small town, where she works as a waitress. She makes friends, and apart from occasional nightmares and flashbacks, she is finally settling down.
However, unresolved past somehow has a way of catching up, and in combination with several inexplicable events, and new love interests, Liza’s life becomes crazy hectic and a lot more interesting than she would like. Her inner conflict between fear and anger is a beauty to watch, in a sense that anger always wins and converts her into this brave, fearless firecracker. Although Liza has some trust issues, they don’t impede her ability to love, be loyal, or lose her self-respect. She knows what she wants, and she knows what she doesn’t want, and there is no compromise. She is also reasonable and does not hold a grudge against people closest to her. She is overall a great lovable character.
There are a lot of emotions is this book, positive, negative, and everything in between. This story is not all about love and happy ending, there is a lot of unpleasantness as well. The author did an amazing job tackling some heavy topics relating to consent. I felt it deep in my chest. Then there is hot and steamy content, very well done. Other characters are really well done as well. Obviously, some are more lovable than others, but all are well developed and firmly placed in the story.
This is a great debut and I can’t wait for the next book in the series. And I can’t be happier to add another great new author to my list of favourites.
Absolutely a fantastic book can’t wait to see what happens in the next book xxx
Poppy Woods has written a great book for her debut as an author, her story has everything from action to love, a couple of hot Alpha brothers and a sassy MC. There are plenty of twists and turns and also plenty hot and steamy action between Liza, Kade and Parker.
Liza is a sassy young woman running/hiding from her past, and she has found refuge in the small town of Helen. Liza has made a couple of friends, found herself an apartment and a job, with only some nightmares, a few flashbacks and the odd panic attack she is starting to move forward with her life.
Parker is the Alpha of the Pride which consist of his older broker Kade and two cousins Jack and Ryan. The Pride is only ment to be in town for a few weeks doing a construction job but with Parker and Kade’s inner animals pulling them towards their seemingly human mate Liza it looks like their stay will be longer.
When Liza’s past catches up with her will she be able to follow her instincts and her heart and trust Parker and Kade to protect her and keep her safe or will her past be too dangerous.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves PNR, Ménage, a book with great characters and a great story.
I am anxiously waiting to see what happen next with Liza, Parker and Kade.
Excellent story. This introduction to Liza and gang was full of action and romance. Liza was hiding, broken from a previous trauma, when she met some guys where she worked. The guys had their own issues they needed to work through.
I liked Liza’s character. Yes, she was slightly broken but she slapped some Elmer’s glue on and kept on going. When the guys showed up, that Elmer’s got reinforced with a bit of superglue. Regardless, she stayed strong and was quick to come back with a retort. She also didn’t do the whole damsel in distress tripe or the whole I’m going to make it so much harder to save me routine. I look forward to seeing what changes will happen in the next book.
I hope some new characters are added for the ones who aren’t paired up. That would be fun.
The editing was well done. I did not notice any errors in spelling, grammar or continuity.
Overall I would recommend this book. Be aware there are scenes that may be triggers for some(rape).
I really enjoyed reading A Call to Pride. Liza is a wonderfully developed lead female character. Kade and Parker are perfect alphas. There is plenty of action and plenty of steam. You may want to throw your book/kindle toward the end, but the ending will definitely leave you hungry for the next book. As a side note, the chapter titles are gorgeous and even though I read this on Kindle, I think I need a print copy too!
Liza is a sassy, sexy female who has a haunted past but is living her life to the fullest. In walks Kade and Parker James…. sexy man/beasts who turn her life upside down.
What I liked about this book was the opening chapter. It was intriguing and definitely catches my attention to read more. It told the story of Liza, who has a very traumatic past that she was running away from. She ended up in a remote town, unknowingly befriended supernaturals, and met brothers Kade and Parker who has secrets of their own. She has no clue that supernaturals exist, that she is even one of them, until her past came back to claim her.
A Call To Pride is an engaging story. I liked the FMC’s sassiness and her strong will to fight her inner demons alone is very admirable. The story centers on lions/ panthers shifters which I liked because almost every book I’ve read are wolf shifter based. We were also introduced to other supernaturals in this book and I would love to see more of that in the next one. The story was told in multiple POV which I loved because it helped me connect with the characters more. It was a fast paced, action packed and steamy hot read. I’m hoping to see more of the characters backstory on the second installment.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Hurry up and one click this book because it’s awesome!!!! It’s got a bit of everything, action, scorching hot naughty time, a mystery and a dark past.
I don’t know how I’m going to survive until the next book. Darn book hangover.
Woods writes an engaging story that draws you in from the first page. I really liked Liza, she has been sort of in hiding since she had a traumatic incident. She has flashbacks, but she keeps going and is fierce. Parker and Kade are yummy and I adore their cousins too. I can’t wait to see where this series goes 🙂
A Call to Pride is Poppy Woods debut book, the first book in the Unsung Veil series, and she didn’t disappoint. It was amazing! Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. Liza our main character is running from a traumatic event that still haunts her dreams. She has settled down in the town of Helen, has a great job as a bartender and new friends; Until she meets brothers Parker and Kade. Parker and Kade are only in town for a few weeks on a job for the pack, but something draws them to Liza that they can’t control. As Liza’s past catches up to her Liza is forced to confront her past and what she is with the help of the brothers and her friends: a witch, a bear shifter, panther shifters and my favorite a black lion shifter. This book is well written, fast paced, full of chemistry and entertaining. I can’t wait to read book two and see what’s next for the Liza and the cats!
I Wish I Could Give More Than Five Measly Stars Because This Book Deserves So Many More!!!
Sorry no spoilers of any kind included!
This book omg this book was freaking AWESOME!
I tried to read it slowly and savor it but it refused to let me!
It sucked me in halfway through the first chapter and I could not climb out until I had got to the end of the story.
There’s so much action and some steam and very addicting MCs whom all are definitely the perfect blends of vulnerable and kick butt!
For Poppy Woods’s first book she did a absolutely amazing job at weaving her story so much that I definitely am looking forward to the next book in this series.
So if you are looking for my advice, well my advice would be get this book and then strap yourself down and get ready for a whirlwind of a roller coaster ride because you’re gonna get a constant fantastic rush all throughout this story!
I received an ARC copy of this book.
I feel like I should start this off by saying I love the Unsung Veil series. I enjoyed Kade, Parker and Liza’s story and I am excited to be able to see more of the Black Death Pride.
That being said I wasn’t a fan of Ryan in Liza’s books. He seemed cold and uncaring. However, this book changed my mind on him. He has so much love to give and only wants to give it to Tally.
There was so much heartache in this book but all of it was worth it. The end was everything I could have hoped for Ryan and Tally. I can’t wait to get Jack’s story.
I will have to say this book for me good. Not only did it make me cry beaches of the ending. But the detail and passions and love that went into this book. Even writing this review in crying. This book brought me to tears, had me laughing and smiling. It caught me off guard. But the author did it again and had me crying for the whole entire book.
