When the cards are stacked against you, the Kings will even the odds.Eduardo “Lucky” Morales is a fighter, from his childhood days in Cuba to his time as a Special Forces Green Beret. Scarred by the wars of his past, Lucky has learned nothing lasts forever. Guarding his heart is second nature, and getting emotionally involved is not an option. As co-owner of Four Kings Security, Lucky works hard … Lucky works hard alongside his former brothers-in-arms and fellow Kings, but he also plays hard. Flirting with sexy Texas cowboy and detective, Mason Cooper, is too much fun to resist, until Mason turns the tables on him.
Mason Cooper may not be a soldier, but he’s fought his share of battles as an openly gay cop and now a detective for Major Crimes. Mason has no idea when things changed between him and Lucky, but the gorgeous, fiery Cuban has turned his world upside down. When a mistake leads to his suspension from the force, Mason turns to the least likely person for help: Ward Kingston.
Determined to keep Mason at arms’ length, Lucky is surprised to find the man at Four Kings Security. The Florida nights might be getting cooler, but the heat between Lucky and Mason burns hotter with every passing moment. Working private security can be dangerous and unpredictable, but so can falling in love.

You could read this book as a standalone, since there’s a good amount of exposition but don’t cheat yourself like that. Read the first two books before you start Join the Club. Now that we have that sorted, this is my favorite so far. Of course, I could be biased because I’m a Texan and Mason’s a Texan – well done, Charlie, got the sayings down pat (It’s like putting socks on a rooster.) – but he’s also a big growling mountain of a man. And Lucky is perfect for him. This book has laughs, a few tear-jerking moments, some action and adventure, and was quite simply fun to read. Now I’m ready for King’s story!
KU. Probably a 3.5, but I rounded up because despite the rough start, the book did get better.
This would have been so much better if the author would have included the epilogue from the last book which “set the scene” for this book. Because I spent the first 25% trying to figure out WTF the MC’s were arguing about.
Also, the reason for Mason’s suspension thus his need to spend time working for the Kings was incredibly contrived/weak.
If you can muddle through the first 30-40%, it’s a pretty decent book with some nice action scenes in it.
Join the Club is the third book in Four Kings Security by Charlie Cochet. It tells the love story between Eduardo “Lucky” Morales and Mason Cooper.
It is funny, sweet, sexy and overall a great read. The characters are great… these men are protective, strong, sexy as hell and yet caring. They are a family and will do anything for each other and those they love. I cant wait to read more about these men
From the beginning for Four Kings Security book 1, my heart went out to Mason Cooper. I felt sorry that his past prevented him from the kind of love Ace could give him, even as I was happy that Ace could find that love with Colton. I was so very happy that Charlie Cochet has something wonderful for him but it comes from the most unlikely source: Lucky! I had NO idea how Charlie would pull a love story from the free-spirited ‘sex-with-no-strings’, Eduardo “Lucky” Morales! But she does and does it beautifully. Mason learns that Lucky has deep levels he could never imagine. Lucky learns Mason is carrying a ton of guilt from his past that only the strongest man could bear. When the smoke clears we find a beautiful love story and another war veteran desperately in need of love. The audio incarnation of the book was brilliantly narrated by the simply incredible Greg Boudreaux.
Epic! Amazing!
This book is one of the most amazing books I have read, it has all the necessary elements, first, two amazing main characters, and the full support of other main characters (how can I not consider the rest of the Kings as main characters as well, I just can’t…) each have endearing and frustrating qualities in terms of stubbornness and righteousness. They have gone through so much in each of their personal lives, and yet they still come out willing to help and give support and assistance to their family, friends, clients and people in general. The story is full of sweetness, even when they are doubting what they feel, it comes out sweet and so endearing. You’d think they would be so callous because of what they had gone through in the past, but no, they are still full of vulnerability and hope. The story line is unique in its own way, the twists and turns provided by their jobs, and the past catching up to them. And the epilogue would keep me awake until the next book is out. Thank you so much Ms. Charlie Cochet, another bestseller with this one, CONGRATULATIONS!
This is my review of the audiobook:
I adore this series, and I’ve been so ready for Lucky and Mason to figure things out and just decide to try to make each other happy. When Mason ends up temporarily working at Four Kings with Lucky, the men impress each other with their skills. Lucky surprises Mason with his calm take-charge attitude, which contrasts greatly with his off-duty emotional demeanor. They begin sharing the secrets of their pasts, which is an especially big deal for Mason, who hasn’t told his backstory to anyone. The jobs the men take on are interesting and bring them closer and closer. All the Kings are here, and their brotherly bond is as strong as always. I love this self-made family and the devotion they have to each other and to the families of their lost brothers.
While there are many laugh out loud moments, there is also so much sweetness in this series, and definitely in Lucky and Mason’s story. The narrator’s performance is perfection, as is the author’s story. This is one of my favorite audiobooks, and I will listen to it again many times, I’m sure. It’s wonderful!
3,5 STARS
I have read the first book in this series a while ago but never got around to read the rest. Then someone recommended this book to me and I thought okay, sure I will try this one and jump book number 2 over.
I am glad I listened to her because this book is good! I love a good alpha vs alpha book where there is a power battle between two hot men. Lucky is this carefree player who is always joking and laughing, nobody thinks about how big a heart he has or that he can take things to personal. But when he goes head to head with Mason and the sparks are flying around them, things are said and feelings are hurt.
Of course, because they are both alpha males they are both too proud to go talk to the other person and explain or maybe apologies to each other.
So when an opportunity opens where they have to work with each other they are in trouble. Can they work together without letting this sexual tension explode?
“This is weird,” Ace muttered, staring at them. “My boyfriend is friends with my ex, who’s got the hots for my cousin. This is my life. It’s like one of my mom’s telenovelas but with less slapping and flaring nostrils.”
And what do you do when one person is a player with his heart closed and the other person the guy who brook your cousin’s heart and is keeping secrets?
I love Mason and Lucky. They are scorching hot together and this is my favourite book in this series. And the epilogue?! Holy shit!! King is a badass and I’m glad Las gets closure. I honestly can’t wait for King’s book. December is so far away!!
High recommendation
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book! Lucky and Mason’s story is my favorite so far. The chemistry between the two is off the charts. I love that push and pull in their relationship. They are good for each other and balance one another out. Lucky and Mason’s history taught them both to be cautious Lucky more so than Mason’s. They are vulnerable to each other and that’s endearing and a little heartbreaking. I love the brotherhood of the Kings and I can’t wait for the King to get his own book! I highly recommend this book!!
Loved it!
I have been waiting for this story ever since I saw a glimpse of them in Red & Laz’s book. It was so worth the wait!!! I loved everything about their story. The chemistry between Mason and Lucky was red hot. There was no denying that they wanted each other. Mason knew that Lucky was different than his typical one night stands….he wanted more but felt he didn’t deserve that. Lucky was so afraid of commitment and the feelings that Mason stirred up in him frightened him even more. Their journey was full of laughter, some tears, action and adventure, and of course very hot and steamy times. When they both let their walls down and they gave love a chance…..it was truly awesome to see. I loved this book so much and I highly recommend it to everyone. I can’t wait until King’s book is here (finally lol)Another fantastic book in this already amazing series…..well done!!!!
My favourite in this series for now.
I’ve always loved Lucky: out of the four Kings, he’s the one that fascinated me the most. And the many flirty, fiery moments he and Mason shared made me so curious to read about their relationship, and their hard-won HEA. And Charlie Cochet does not disappoint: this book lived up to all the expectations I had and actually exceeded them. This book has everything I love in a book: angst and drama, hate (or at least, dislike) to reluctant and explosive chemistry (*screaming* HOT HOT HATE SEX ALERT!) to love, two MCs that are scared of commitment and of being hurt, whom I loved with my whole heart, found family, comedy and romance and it left me with the lightest feeling in my chest. Just the kind of book I was looking for in these scary and frustrating times.
I loved both Mason and Lucky so much: they were perfect for one another. Lucky, in particular, showed some unexpected vulnerable and unbearably tender sides, that literally smacked me in the face with feels.
I also loved seeing the whole gang, as usual, and the humur and jokes and love and respect they all have for one another. Charlie Cochet is so good at creating the best found family vibes.
That epilogue has left me so curious to start the next book, even though King isn’t my favourite. I’m really looking forward to seeing a bit more of him though, and hopefully I’ll change my mind about him.

Four Kings Security, Book Three
By: Charlie Cochet
Narrated by: Greg Boudreaux
Charlie Cochet writes another awesome “Four Kings Security” novel. I am torn on which character I love the most in this series, I gain a new love in each book and in this one there is a tie between Eduardo “Lucky” Morales and Mason Cooper who are fabulous in their own way. And oh my, what Greg Bourdreaux does for these characters is absolutely amazing, I do not think I have ever heard a more swoon worthy “Darling” than his Mason’s and then there is his Lucky, my favorite smoking Cuban Latino. Mason had some history with Ace but it never went anywhere, that history caused some angst between Red and Mason. But the chemistry between them was explosive, they were bound to happen and when it did you knew it was going to be hot and the sparks would be flying. Genius move by King putting these two together for an assignment, he is a perceptive man and I am looking forward to his book next. It was great to learn more about these two, where they came from and how they got to where they are. I loved how everything played out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, humor, thrilling suspense, mystery, heartfelt emotions and hot sexy times leading to a hot romance. Thanks again for your awesomeness Charlie Cochet!
And for the amazing narration, Greg Boudreaux’s talent has not bounds, his knack for accents is remarkable as is her portrayal of each character. I loved his take on Mason, he perfected a southern cowboy charmer as well as his alpha side and Lucky, playing the super hot Latino came easy for him, loved his Spanish phrases too. Mr. Boudreaux is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks you for another awesome listen.
Join the Club is the third book in the Four Kings Security series. I highly recommend reading the first two books first, although maybe you can read this book as a standalone.
The relationship between Lucky and Mason is pure fire – they have such a strong connection yet it’s full of contention and friction. The plot was a little weak, especially the reason why Mason was put on paid leave and his reasons for working for Four Kings Security. I also think the author missed the mark when she wrote about how Mason was discussing his admiration of the security company and how more fulfilled he felt working as a security guard with Four Kings Security instead of being a homicide detective. His reasoning was that security guards/bodyguards could prevent someone from being killed and homicide detectives could only work the case after the worst has happened. That’s such a hollow and silly argument. Especially from a veteran police officer who just made detective. I could see Mason feeling burnt out and wanting a change from police work due to the stress and department policies, but not because he didn’t feel that being a detective was a passive job that didn’t make as big of a difference in the world as security. I felt that this viewpoint was pushed by the author in order to make the Four Kings Security company seem so much grander and greater than what it really is. This need to reinforce that the Four Kings Security company is the best security company ever gets a little old. However, the character banter, the silly and funny moments, and the steamy sex make the book entertaining and fun to read.
I love this series. I will admit after reading book one I jumped to see who Lucky’s story was and read a chapter or two before going back to book 2. Something about Lucky just called to me. I was also ecstatic to get Mason’s story as well. These two just really fit and I loved the push pull in the dynamics of the relationship. The plot was good too.
This series just keeps getting better.
Original review: https://myshelfbooks.wordpress.com/2019/07/13/join-the-club-charlie-cochet/
When I started this saga, Charlie Cochet was a new author to me. It was love at first sight: good sense of humor, enjoyable characters, good romance and good side plots. The second book was a confirmation, but this third book has been kind of a step backwards… or half a dozen. It is not a bad one, but it lacks almost all the traits that made me fall in love with the Kings and company.
This time we follow the misadventures of Lucky, Ace’s cousin who is a womanizer and manizer (does that word exist?). He doesn’t want to commit to any relationship, which creates a conflict with the other leg of the story: Mason Cooper. The bigger than life Cowboy who is also a detective and wants a piece or twenty of the Cuban who is stealing his sleep hours. A misstep of Mason gets him suspended, so he asks for a temporal job in Four Kings Security. Fate or luck, his first boss is not other tan Lucky himself…
My biggest issue with this book is the plot itself. The previous ones had a much bigger mystery that helped to keep the readers engaged with the story at the same time we enjoyed the romance. This one is too much hugs and too few punchs. I wouldn’t even put it in the same shelf as the first two books, due to the lack of a real mystery plot. Yes, there are some nods here and there about Mason’s past, but it is pretty lazy and basic with an ending that was unremarkable and lacking any kind of emotion. So, if I ignore the fact that the mystery is almost equal to null and try to surround myself with the proper dispostion to catch and follow this change of pace in the saga, I still get a pretty weak book.
I’m not saying everything is horrible, not at all. It has some good chunks that are very enjoyable, like the one where Lucky and Mason have to protect a young actress. Now and then the book shines, which makes the reading bearable. It is just the feeling of reading to getting nowhere was pretty hard to shake. I blame the overwhelming use of sex scenes. There are too many. Their only task is to fill pages and pages with two hot guys having adult fun. Which is good in small dosis, but with this overdose I got sick pretty fast. It sucks, because I really like both characters and I wanted to enjoy the journey of their love. My fault for thinkings it was going to be an exotic adventure fill with the thrill of danger… Instead, I only got sex, sex, more sex and waaaaaaaaaaaay too many “Darlin’s“.
I think I liked the characters much better before this book. Well, being honest my opinion about Lucky hasn’t changed (I still think I barely know him), but Mason is in a worst position on my list. For some reason I thought he was in the sweet size of the spectrum, but, actually, he is much more Alpha than expected. That took me by surprise. But instead of embracing that new aspect of him, the author tries to grant him some cuteness with the constant “Darlin’” for Lucky… I couldn’t fit both aspects in the same character to the point that I hated every time Mason used that word. Absurd little details that make the reading heavier than normal…
As always, the very best part of the book is every page Ace takes part in. I love that character a ton. I love him 3000!! (*wink*). He is one of my favourtie goofy characters. Everything he does makes me smile. His shenanigans are the highlight of a book that won’t leave a dent in my journey as a reader.
Next is King’s book. It looks promising, thanks to the the lengthy epilogue where his story has been introduced. At least it seems there is going to be more action and a more vivid romance. Fingers crossed!!

Narration: 5
Damn explosive! So hot and just fantastic!!
I love this series!!!! Lucky is one of my favorite characters and I love his passion and selflessness. Mason and Lucky have been flirting and tip-toeing around get other for a while (as mentioned in the previous book, Be Still My Heart (Red’s Story)). Their story continues here and their chemistry is explosive!!! They bait each other and annoy each other until the tension and lust explodes, and damn its HOT!
This story is full of suspense, sex, and security! While not as thrilling as book one or dramatic as book 2 it is still a tension-filled awesome read. There is a lot of will they or won’t they that finally turns into I will for you!
Both Mason and Lucky are guarded in their own way and damaged by their pasts. It’s a wonderful moment when they realize they are better together and push past their boundaries to be together. The Four Kings family welcomes Mason with open arms and hearts. I love Charlie’s writing and look forward to many more books in this series.
Additional Note: I loved the epilogue that gives us a solid glimpse into the stern, stoic Ward Kingston. I can’t wait for his story in the next book!!!!

I liked this installment of the Four Kings Security series. A solid 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I liked Lucky and Mason’s romance and how, when they finally sort-of got together, that they didn’t hurt each other out of fear, but actually talked to each other like adults, meaning we didn’t get any of that often-annoying will-they-or-won’t-they push/pull. I really enjoyed them together as their relationship developed, although I thought there was way too much sex for such a short novel.
Where this book lost 1.5 stars was in everything else. The plot outside the romance felt a bit disjointed; there was nothing really there to bring everything together. The subplot surrounding Mason’s odd feelings that he was being followed or that someone had been in his apartment became extremely obvious once we learned about his past. And there was the little matter of it being unprofessional for Lucky and Mason to hook up while Mason was technically working for Lucky.
Also, I felt like I had gotten dropped into the middle of a story. There’s some background information that we’re not told in this book because it happened in a previous book in the series. And while I did read the previous books, I didn’t remember all of the details. And since those details are not explained in this book, I was left a bit confused about a couple of things, like who the heck Oscar is, or Elena and Bryan (from the epilogue. Something to do with Las as King alludes to, but I can’t remember what happened in a book that I read 6 months ago, okay?). So I would’ve liked to have things that related to previous books explained a bit more.
As it is, this is not a standalone. I’ve read the two previous books and even I felt a little bit lost. I did enjoy the book, and while the romance was my favourite aspect for which I give this novel a 4-star rating, the rest of it didn’t quite work for me.
