Mel, Sara, Annie, and Lola have traveled diverse paths since their years together at a small Southern liberal arts college during the early 1980s. Mel, a mystery writer living in New York, is grappling with the aftermath of two failed marriages and a stalled writing career. Sara, an Atlanta attorney, struggles with her own slowly unraveling marriage. Annie, a successful Nashville businesswoman … married to her childhood sweetheart, can’t seem to leave behind the regrets of her youth. And sweet-tempered Lola whiles away her hours — and her husband’s money — on little pills that keep her happy.
Now the friends, all in their forties, converge on Lola’s lavish North Carolina beach house in an attempt to relive the carefree days of their college years. But as the week wears on and each woman’s hidden story is gradually revealed, these four friends learn that they must inevitably confront their shared past, and a secret that threatens to change their bond, and their lives, forever.

A great weekend read. I loved the characters.
I read and loved Cathy Holton’s previous two novels about the Kudzu Debutantes. So, when I saw she had a new book out that did not continue that story, I was a little dubious as to whether or not I would enjoy it. I’ll be honest, I absolutely underestimated this book.
If you’ve read the synopsis, then you know this is a book about 4 friends who …
I have sorority sisters that I still keep up with so it was easy to connect to this story about friendship and the history you share that binds you forever.
A nice summer read about 4 women who reconnect for a week at the beach. The understanding that women have and the ability to confront, forgive, and laugh through it all.
Great story with a great ending!
I really liked this read
What an ending.
Trite”
Fun funny fun
This book was very hard to read, I felt. It has a great ending with a great “lesson” at the end. I had to make myself keep reading, hoping that something would happen and make the a better book. It finally did pull everything together and had a good ending.
The ending will be a surprise
Somewhat predictable.
Liked this book. Sometimes a little slow but worth it.
Somehow the characters don’t seem to come alive. However, it’s an easy read.
Long winded without much plot. How can you write a book this long without actually going anywhere. The only character that was even remotely interesting got minimal backstory. Blah
I read this book when it first came out and now can’t wait to put it on my Kindle. My signed copy by the author is one I treasurer always, as this book is one of Cathy Holton’s very best books. It was picked one of the best summer reads by Target Stores and I can assure you, it was. I highly recommend this book.
I couldn’t put this book down. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I found a new twist. This was a great summer read!
