My first read with this author. I love her style. No babbling about all the characters and not too many in the story. The action was believable and she didn’t go on and on about past history and forensics. Can’t wait to read another….
This was the first time that I’ve read this author but not the last. I’m thankful for Prime free reads because I might not have discovered this author with out it.
This was a well written serial killer mystery – suspense story. It’s not graphic, just enough to pull you in but not make you feel queasy. I appreciate that.
Sara is very likeable as are Carla and Lorraine. They, along with the rest of the team, work well together.
I’m going to see what else I can read by M. A. Comley.
I enjoyed every page of this book. It kept my interest throughout the book. It was quirky and funny in some instances and sad in others.
I loved M.A. Comley’s justice series, and I honestly didn’t think anything could match it. Turns out I was wrong because in this first of a new series following DI Sara Ramsey, we have a new kick-ass detective on the killer’s heels. Sara has recently moved to a new area, a supposedly quiet part of the countryside after a harrowing stint in Liverpool.
However, Sara’s hopes for the quiet life are short lived when news breaks of a double homicide. An elderly couple have been murdered in their home. The motive, though remains elusive. No evidence of a break-in, no signs of robbery. While Sara is still scratching her head, she has another double murder on her hands. A prolific serial killer is on the loose, and Sara needs to catch him or her fast.
What follows is a fast-paced rollercoaster synonymous of what we’ve come to expect of a Comley crime novel. There’s barely time to catch your breath as the killer ups the ante. Will Sara and team be able to catch him before another elderly couple lose their lives?
Highly recommended!
A new author with a terrific team of detectives in the country side of England. You have Sara and her partner Carla dealing with light crimes in the smaller rural areas far from gritty London….only to find an older couple brutally beaten in their home.
One couple murdered is bad but when a second couple are attacked, the countryside takes on a sinister edge. Sara has worked in the urban areas and is keen to share her knowledge. Her problem is it brings back memories of her own loss, her husband. Carla and Sara seem to be sorting out their working relationship and their team in solving these cases.
It is a police procedural with a cozy cottage flavor but dealing with real issues that exist even in small towns. You meet the bereaved relatives, the neighbors and the victims. Someone seems to be killing off older people that have a habit of keeping cash at home instead of in the banks.
Sara and her cat are adjusting to life alone while her mother in law keeps calling as does Donald, her brother in law. Sara is lucky that her parents are still around and live close by. There is a sense of humor and closeness among the police. The clues are few but exist and the police do a good job of paying attention to the smallest details. Sara and Carla make a solid team and I look forward to the next book!
This is book 1 in a new series by M.A. Comley, author of 3 of my favorite British Poilice mystery/Suspense series; now we can make that 4. I love the new characters and the mystery is just twisted and twisty enough to satisfy my grit and gore needs. I believe I’ll be joining the list of fans for this new series. Definitely a 4.5 must read series. It’s hard to find a first book that doesn’t have so much background included the story bogs down; this one doesn’t! A great beginning for a must-read series.
No Right to Kill is book one in a new series. We are introduced to DI Sara Ramsey and DS Carla Jameson. I love the dynamics between the pair and enjoyed reading as their working relationship grew during the course of the novel. Sara’s backstory gave her a lovely human touch. She’s a detective with heart and she uses that heart to comfort victims as well as drive the investigation. Mel has created an incredibly likeable detective.
This book throws the reader directly into a scene which shows an abhorrent crime where two people are found dead in their home. Throughout the story, we get chapters from the killer’s point of view, forcing the reader to keep turning those pages. Who doesn’t want a killer caught? These chapters were very skilfully written, showing the reader exactly what type of person the perpetrator was – very cleverly building that tension up.
This novel moves at speed and I read it in only two sittings. It delivers a brilliant introduction to a cast of new characters, some who will be carried forward into the next book in the series. Page-turner? Definitely. Fab new series? Yes! Check it out? You certainly should!
Wonderful read! MA Comley does it again. You don’t want to miss this new book!
This is the first in a new crime fiction series featuring DI Sara Ramsay.
Sara is dedicated to her job, even more so now that her husband was murdered over a year ago. It was seemingly a random act, and the shooter has never been caught. Her cat, Misty, is her best friend and comforts her when nothing else can. She’s fighting off the attention of her late husband’s brother … how can she let him down softly? She’s also still dealing with her husband’s mother, who refuses to get on with her life.
And now she has an unusual murder case. An elderly couple are brutally murdered. The killer left no clues, no DNA, nothing to go on. As far as motive goes, it’s a tossup.
And then a second elderly couple are killed. Who would want to harm these perfectly harmless people. But the killer’s MO has changed drastically. This couple’s special needs daughter is missing. Did he take her? Has she run away after seeing her parents killed?
Sara and her team must move fast before there is more death. But are they already too late?
This is a great start to a new series. Sara and her team work well together, although they are still in the getting-to-know-you stage. I really enjoyed the intereaction among them.
The story premise is a good one .. no cliff hanger … but there is a gentle lead – in to Sara’s next adventure. Her cat Misty plays a big part of the story.
Many thanks to the author who provided a digital copy of this beginning of a crime series. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
It’s not the best written crime procedural book& in fact that part really bothered me. Also, I was unimpressed that the main character is a DI but doesn’t have the balls to say to someone to back off in their personal life…I won’t ruin too much in case someone decides to read this book. Not enough realistic police procedures given it’s based in present day…not enough mention of forensics etc …if you watch or read true crime or any type of crime drama – you will be sadly disappointed. For example- when have you ever seen/heard the police tell the victims family what their theory of the case is?! I mean come on…it just doesn’t make sense! I finished it bc I wanted to see if it would get better and I hate not finishing a book. But don’t bother wasting your time or especially your money!!
This was my first book by this author and it won’t be the last. A very enjoyable police procedural murder mystery. Loved the carrot dangled at the end. Not so much a cliffhanger more of an enticement to read the next book.
Great read.
It had promise….the expose of villains did not sit well with me, as the earlier descriptions of weak and evil l characters did not foreshadow nor explain why the people performed as they did. I also do not appreciate the main character’s mental stress and lack of gumption.
Interesting characters and good plot.
Love MA conley’s books. Page Turner. You have to keep reading and cant put the book down til your done.
A long time fan of the Justice series and the DI Sally Parker series, I was delighted to have a new series to dive into featuring DI Sara Ramsey. The subject matter was quite harrowing, as I’m reaching retirement age myself. However, it was totally realistic, and not hard to imagine someone preying on innocent older people who are ready to enjoy their golden years.
Many twists and turns and things I did not see coming.
I read abt half and gave it up–did Not Like it.
Excellent story
