The day Quinten Marvell became the Duke of Somerset should have been the most exhilarating day of his life. Instead, it was the day he inherited nothing but a pile of outstanding debts. Yet, there was one thing he was certain his father couldn’t squander, a place gifted to his mother, and then to him. Determined to recover the entire Somerset legacy, Quinn flees to the only home left to him, … Lindenwood Manor, and discovers it to be the crowning loss in his father’s long list of failures. Now the most direct path to recovery lies in the heart of his beautiful and wealthy neighbor, Miss Alice Moore. Knowing that marriage would sentence this lovely, scarred woman to a lifetime of being snubbed as a commoner, will he sacrifice her to save himself from a life of poverty?

True Love
Quinn and Ali’s is a wonderfully written love story that captures the reader’s attention from the very beginning. These two had so many heartaches and trials on their road to happiness, but it was very rewarding to experience the strength and courage they had as they grew to know and trust each other. Another great read by Laura Landon.
Another great book by Ms Landon! The characters, Quintin and Alice were thrown together in an unusual circumstance. At first neither was thrilled when introduced but fate and time had a funny surprise for them both. A beautiful love story grew and Ms Landon did it again. It’s a pleasure to read her writing and look forward to her next book.
The journey to find that special someone often goes to the least expected places. It seems fate, many times, has a hand in that direction or so it seems! Quinton, the Duke of Somerset found he was left an inheritance with almost nothing but debt to show after he inherited his title. Thinking that he still had a haven in Lindenwood Manor, which was gifted to him by his mother, he finds instead it had been sold to his wealthy neighbor. But a scheme is afoot that if Quinton will marry his daughter Alice, his finances will be restored and the family name redeemed.
But Alice is a commoner and would have a hard time being accepted by the upper class. Alice just wants a quiet life and just paint and be content.
What a wonderful story that will take you on a trail of intrigue, danger and love if the two can come to terms with their feelings and the future!! Really enjoyed this story that just made my heart smile. Although the second book in a series, it can be read as a standalone!
Quinten Marvell, Duke of Somerset may hold one of the most prominent titles in the land, but since his father’s death the debtors are gathering. He knew his father sold everything he possibly could but thought that there was the one estate he could not touch. The place that Quinten thought of as home.
Miss Alice Moore has lived in the countryside with her father ever since the accident that scarred her for life. The fortune that her father has earned will not help her be accepted by the upper classes. She is happy just painting the beauty of the estate.
Our hero is determined to regain everything his father wasted, and to do it himself.
This is a wonderful story that shows us there is much more that is important in life than appearances. Beauty is on the inside.
This is obviously not the first book in the series, but can be read on it’s own. However now I want to read the previous one, and the next.
I loved it.
This is the second book in a series, which so far, is vastly entertaining. Ali is the only child of a very wealthy but untitled man. Her father, a widower, loves her very much and is concerned for her future as he believes he is very ill. So dad hashes a plan to catch his daughter a duke. That duke is Quinn, his property is adjacent to theirs, and after his father died in disgrace, his only goals are to remove the tarnish from his family name and restore their finances to rights as well.
Neither Ali nor Quinn are interested in Ali’s father’s plans, but the two end up spending time together. She has lost faith in most men because of a harrowing incident in her past, and he is too busy with ducal affairs to be marriage minded as of yet. But they develop a friendship and an attraction that neither can ignore. Both believe that they come from worlds too different to be suited to each other for marriage, but each finds reasons to continue their friendship.
The story becomes fraught with intrigue and danger which tests their desire for a future without each other, can either walk away?
This is a second in a series of stories, both involving interesting characters and plots. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and am definitely looking forward to the next.
Quinten Marvell had become the Duke of Somerset, finally. However, his late father had spent all the money gambling and all he left were outstanding notes to be paid. But he had the property his mother had left him, and he had given the title to his solicitor, so his father would not sell it. Little did he know, that his father had sold that to his wealthy neighbor Edgar Moore, a shipping magnate, and his daughter. Laura Landon has written this book with such a depth of feeling in Quinten for wanting to be back in society, having paid all the money owed, and serve in the House of Lords. But how was he to do that with nothing left to him to work his way back? The one way out was to marry Edgar’s daughter, Ali, receive a large amount of money, his home given back to him, but the problem was that they were not of nobility. What was he to do?
Quinton the Duke of Somerset had the title, but nothing to go with it. His father left him destitute. Determined to restore his fortune he does not have many options. When the wealthy Edgar Moore a commoner comes to him with a proposition. Marry his beautiful daughter and he would not only pay off his debts but he would eventually inherit everything. Quinton knew if he married a commoner like her father wanted, he would no doubt have to avoid London for the rest of his life. Which would destroy every dream he had of restoring his family name. It was going to be a difficult journey for both Quinton and Ali and I think that’s why I loved the story. Through the ups and downs and overcoming adversity love will survive. Laura Landon created wonderful characters and I enjoyed reading their story.
